Fillings

When you have tooth decay on your teeth, we remove the decay and place a filling to replace the lost tooth structure due to the decay. Our goal is to restore your smile to function and inan aesthetic manner. We place tooth colored fillings, also known as white fillings, at our office.  ''Silver'' or amalgam fillings are an alternative to white resin fillings.

Mild dental damage is typically repaired using a silver-colored amalgam material. In addition to being noticeable while smiling, these fillings are wedged in place by a series of notches in teeth. Over time, this can lead to bacteria being trapped between the tooth and the filling causing additional decay. Amalgam also expands and contracts when exposed to temperature changes, which may damage the tooth. Composite resin filling materials are applied directly to the tooth in a malleable form, allowing the filling to seep into even the smallest crevices and grooves in smiles forming a solid bond and blending into the natural smile line.

Root Canal Therapy

When decay or damage affects the innermost layer of your tooth that houses the nerve system, a root canal therapy is necessary. During the procedure, our dentists will remove damaged pulp and nerve tissue, thereby relieving pain, a filling material is placed into the space where the pulp and nerve tissue had previously occupied.  After the root canal therapy has been completed, a post and core and crown are usually recommended to restore the full form and function to the damaged tooth.

Although root canal therapy has a bad reputation of being a painful procedure, it actually alleviates the toothache pain that precedes the root canal.  More often than not, if you have had discomfort with a tooth that had a root canal during the appointment it is likely the infection became so large that it prevented the actual numbing anesthetic from doing its job to keep you numb.  If you are numb, you won't feel a thing when your teeth are being cared for.  The take home point:  DO NOT wait for your teeth to become severely infected before seeking treatment to ensure the most positive and successful outcomes for your dental treatment.

Crowns

Our dentist will recommend a crown after root canal therapy, if you have a fractured tooth or if you need an exceptionally large filling. You can also ask for a crown for cosmetic reasons, such repairing a misshapen tooth. Sometimes, patients will ask for a crown to cover a discolored tooth that will not respond to whitening treatments. If you are getting a bridge, a crown makes an excellent anchor.

Bridge

A bridge is a fixed alternative to replace missing teeth. It involves crowning or capping the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. The bridge extends to either side of the missing tooth space and is cemented over existing teeth. It is fixed and does not fall out like a denture or partial would. Often, bridges blend in so well with neighboring teeth, patients forget that they have a bridge to replace missing teeth.

Night Guard or Bite Guard

Unconscious grinding or clenching of teeth, especially at night, is called bruxism. This condition is caused by a number of things, including stress, misaligned bite, and habit. To prevent potential dental damage that may occur due to bruxism, we recommend custom crafted oral appliances.

These appliances position your jaw in its ideal location, reducing the amount of grinding and clenching that occurs, and places a physical barrier between teeth to prevent dental chips and wear.

Sports Mouth Guards

Sports related injuries are the leading causes of tooth loss for patients under the age of 25.  The best way for patients to protect smiles from potential damage is to wear a sportsguard anytime they compete in athletic events where teeth may come in contact with other players, sports equipment, or hard surfaces. We offer comfortable, custom sportsguards that protect smiles without the bulky feeling and discomfort that often occurs when patients wear store bought athletic mouthguards.

Tooth Colored Fillings (Resin Fillings) and Direct Bonding

Tooth-colored fillings are very natural looking and are fast becoming the preferred dental procedure for repairing minor chips, cracks, and tooth decay. Silver-colored amalgam fillings were traditionally considered the standard in repair for minor decay and dental damage. Such fillings are not only noticeable within the smile line but are also wedged in place by a series of notches.

Over a period of time, bacteria is trapped between the tooth and the filling, resulting in additional tooth decay. When exposed to temperature changes, silver-colored amalgam fillings can expand and contract.

Composite resin fillings are applied directly to the tooth in a malleable form. This allows the filling to seep into even the smallest crevices and grooves in smiles, forming a solid bond and blending into the natural smile line.

If you'd like to have your silver-colored amalgam fillings replaced with tooth-colored fillings, get in touch with us. The process generally requires one or two appointments with our dentists.

On your first appointment, we will remove the old fillings and any additional decay. We may place a composite cured resin or take an impression of your teeth. A model of your teeth is made and sent to the lab, and a temporary onlay is placed on the tooth.

On your second appointment, the temporary onlay is removed. To prepare your tooth for the new onlay, a conditioning gel is placed. We will then apply bonding cement on the tooth. A high-intensity light will be used to bond the resin to the tooth. We will also polish the tooth so that it remains smooth and look natural.

Denture Repair

If your existing denture or partial breaks, we are able to repair it for you. A denture can break within the base of the denture, a clasp from the Partial, or one of the denture teeth. In severe cases the prosthesis may need to be remade, but most of the time, we are able to fix the denture and get it back to you in a timely manner so you are not without your teeth for too long.
